Shun noooooooooooooooooooooo. Y-you appeared so little in the movie, I want more moments with Shun!!....and Shin. He's so huggaaaablee My new favourite movie, by one of my biggest inspirations ever, Shinkai Makoto!!
Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo is such a lovely and inspiring-themed movie. I love such settings the most. I didn't use a reference, kind of put together some elements from memory. I watched it 4 times already. It was strange and unexpected how his skies have stuck in my head/heart?? Since I watched Kumo no Mukou, Yakusoku no basho, my whole world has definitely changed. I thought nothing can compare with the beauty of the real sky, but Shinkai Makoto's worlds have an extreme beauty, different but just as beautiful as the real sky.
I still can't believe the negative critiques this movie is receiving. It's not "too light", it's just different. The characters are few, but totally loved the time with them. It's a story that has both sadness, happiness and loss, somehow peaceful but full of meaning, certainly trying to tell something. One of my goals is to improve at backgrounds. I put too many catchy colours, leaving out important grays, blues etc. I will try a bit calmer colours in the next practices. ...
<EDIT> HOLLY ANGELIC BANANAS!! Thank. You. So. Much. For. The. DD!!! I didn't expect to receive another DD. I'm deeply honoured and lost of words! so I'll just....:
You art is so beautfiul!! It's impossible to say you have room for improvement, yet you say so anyways, and that makes you a truly wonderful artist.
I read your description; I read that you draw on the mac? If so, do you use Sai or a different program? Because I've been trying to get a good drawing software that lets me use the same techniques as Sai, but I can't find any. Right now, I'm using Manga Studio, but it doesn't have everything I want (like the blending feature), and plus, there are a few problems with importing pictures (which I need).
Thank you so so much for the wonderful words!! I think "improvement" isn't decided by the level an artwork seems to be , but by how much someone decides to become better from now on
I draw on a mac, yes! I use paint tool SAI with all the full utilities, and a tablet wacom Bamboo. A program that works for mac and I heard it's extremely good is Corel Painter. the latest version is 12 I think
I have a windows XP installed on my mac, with the help of the VMware fusion program : [link] unfortunately it isn't free ...there may be some free ones if you search the web though. I'm just lucky that my uncle works in movie-something-editing and needs that when working at studios...
Even if you can't find free ones, I'm sure there are cheaper ones out there.
Ah, I see!! I did a few researching on Corel Painter, and it definitely is an amazing program for art, but I don't think I should spend about $200 for a program I'm not going to use for professional purposes. I'm going to keep Corel in mind though, because it'll be so cool to draw with it in the future!!!
I'll probably buy Manga Studio EX and delete Debut because EX has extra tools and techniques I'd like to use, and it's much cheaper than Corel Painter-about $40!!
Oh. My. God! THIS is the most beautiful thing that I've saw in my life! HOLY MY! I can't express my feelings in english! I just... JUST LOVED IT! Is so colorful! And the sky... the clouds... OMG D: This is so beautiful that I'll die! ;o; Awesome. So much awesome! Congratulations for your awesome drawing! You totally deserved the DD!
