but just to think that ONE person would secretly make money with MY characters.... It hurts alot.
Seriously, I have my own characters and if they were like Naruto or Pikachu (being always commissioned and drawn by others), I wouldn't like it. They are used to gain money without the original creator's consent. Naruto came out of Kishimoto-sensei's mind and soul, and if Kishimoto-sensei did not say "yes you can make money off my world and my character", then nope.
Kishimoto-sensei makes profit from the merchandise he probably Approved to be sold by companies in Japan, and even if I bought some, he still wouldn't know that I made money off Naruto.
Permission is everything for me regarding fanart.

Anyway, please keep in mind that in Japan itself the manga creators tolerate moderate sales of doujinshi; it's common knowledge. ^^
